Changes have been made to the US TikTok ban. The TikTok app stopped working and was removed from the App Store and Google Play on Saturday night, just hours before the January 19 ban.
People who have installed the app instead are greeted with a pop-up. “Sorry, TikTok is currently unavailable,” it says. “A ban on TikTok has been implemented in the US. Unfortunately, this means you can’t use TikTok right now. We are lucky that President Trump has also said that he will work with us on how to stop TikTok when he takes office. Please. Listen.”
This notification provides the option to close the app or “learn more,” which leads users to the TikTok website, which has common language. Existing users can also download their data from the site. ByteDance’s popular video editing software, CapCut, is also available are no longer available within the US.
Following this passage of “Protecting Americans from Laws Directed by Foreign Enemies” by President Biden, TikTok had six months to separate itself from the Chinese company ByteDance.
