As the world turns, so do the comforting generations. Nintendo Switch he has passed seven yearsso I need to be refreshed. Rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 have been circulating cycle of yearsbut now we have some signs of life. The company officially revealed the series At his most successful home ever in a small trailer on January 16th.
The Switch 2 looks very similar to the original machine, albeit with a larger display, magnetic Joy-Cons and a sleeker design. The company also confirmed that the upcoming console will be backwards compatible with Switch games.
Although the reveal confirmed some rumors and has a lot of fun for those paying attention, Nintendo is still keeping its cards close to its chest. We’ll have to wait until the special Nintendo Direct on April 2 to find out more about the liquid. Annoyingly, that date is Wednesday and not two days.
The rumor mill had it very much he encouraged that Nintendo would pull back the curtain on the Switch 2 on January 16, and so it turned out.
The company did not change the basic structure. It’s a portable controller with interchangeable Joy-Cons. The Switch 2 can be installed on the main game port. There are some big differences from the original console, though.
The most obvious thing is that the next Joy-Cons will not be mechanical replacements. Instead, they attach to a large magnetic field. There is a small connector that is used to charge the controllers and possibly eliminate the need to connect them via Bluetooth. It’s unclear at this time if the Joy-Cons from the original console will be compatible with the Switch 2.
Another big (and welcome) change is the addition of a second USB-C port on the top of the device. This should make it easier to plug in extras when Switch 2 is closed. It’s nice to see that Nintendo has also kept the headphone jack. Let’s just hope that Bluetooth headset support is available from now on and Nintendo won’t let anyone down waiting four years about that part.
Kickstand adds more. As with the Switch OLED, it runs the length of the console. But, according to the trailer, this one looks completely customizable, so you can change the viewing angle to whatever works for you.
However, there are many unknowns about the upcoming console. We don’t know exactly, or what kind of display it uses. We also don’t know anything about battery life, UI or launch games. We will learn more on April 2nd.
2025. That’s all we know for sure at this point.
It’s highly unlikely that Nintendo will release the console before the Direct on April 2, not least because it’s the start of next year’s Nintendo event. However, supplement manufacturer Genki, which has been the main source of leaks in recent months, it is said that the console will be released in April.
In any case, we should learn the release date on the April 2 Direct if we haven’t already.
Nintendo is planning a world premiere to allow gamers to interact with the console. These events begin in New York and Paris on April 3-6, with others taking place over the next two months. This confirms some speculation that Nintendo will release the Switch 2 in June.
Ticket registration for the Switch 2 Experience events in the US (in New York, Los Angeles and Paris) premieres on January 17th at 3PM ET and will be open until January 26. A Nintendo account is required to register. Nintendo will randomly select the recipients of the free tickets.

Everything we have seen and so far about this contract has been fair, good, traditional. It looks like the original Switch, but better. It’s amazing, but will there be unexpected magic for Nintendo? Maybe! There are two confusing extensions that people can’t hide or hair.

Sharp eyes will have noticed a new button under the right Joy-Con. It is unclear what this is doing. Can it enable voice chat during gameplay? Can it control the controllers? Can it create a Bowser hologram in your living room? We will have to wait and see.
Now go to the modified Joy-Cons. There seems to be a new sensor on the connecting side of each controller. It seems a both as a light sensorwhich is what a computer mouse uses. This has led to speculation that players will be able to turn the Joy-Con around and use it as a mouse. Note: the trailer shows the Joy-Cons moving on a flat surface, the connector side down and looking suspiciously like a mouse.
But why would anyone want this? I can think of three words. New Mario Paint.
The company confirmed in November 2024 that Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. It will also have access to Nintendo Online, so users will be able to play all the old retro titles.
In the first press release for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo mentioned that physical and digital games may work on the new system. However, it noted that “some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.” More information about the game will be revealed later.
Rumors about the specs are all over the place, so it’s hard to list them. We know one thing for sure: It will be much more powerful than the previous Switch devices, which were dated back in 2017. An expert says he got hold of a paper from Korean United Daily News that said Switch 2 it boasts an octa-core Cortex-A78AE processor8GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal eMMC storage. This works for me, since this is less effective in 2024 as the original Change was in 2017. However, some reports indicating that the console it will include 12GB of RAM.
Another source indicates that the eight-core CPU will be installed inside the NVIDIA processor Tegra239 SoC (system on chip). Since the latest update runs on an NVIDIA chip, that makes sense. The CPU will be more powerful, but it’s the Switch 2’s new GPU that will be the biggest difference. It’s known-but-certain that the Switch 2 will support DLSS, NVIDIA’s “deep learning supersampling” technology, which will allow the console to render games at lower internals and output a higher quality image. (Fun: We wrote about How good was DLSS on the Nintendo Switch 2 (where the technology was announced alongside the RTX 20 series back in 2018.)
There are questions about Update 2 and DLSS: Will this system work? DLSS new features like framing? Will existing games be optimized with NVIDIA’s algorithm? Regardless of the actual implementation, the upgrade to DLSS will be a huge leap forward in the basic options available to Nintendo Switch developers.
As for the show, there are many conflicting rumors. Early reports from solid sources say the Switch 2 will feature an 8-inch LCD display. The Switch 2 display looks larger than the original Switch in a side-by-side comparison in the reveal trailer.
Some researchers have said that this could be an OLED screen, while others have suggested that it could be a Mini-LED display. A Mini-LED display is basically an LCD display with a backlight made of (surprisingly!) tiny LEDs instead of edge lighting. This reduces the local darkness, which makes the blacks darker. I’m hedging my bets here. I think it will be a standard LCD, to keep costs down, with an OLED or Mini-LED model coming later down the line. However, Mini-LED screens are slightly cheaper than OLED screens, so they are more feasible for implementation.
As for the resolution, recent reports suggest that the console will output 1080p on handheld and 4K when installed. It’s much better than the OG Switch. At this point, it’s still unclear whether the Switch 2 will offer the same functionality or visuals as the original Switch game.
We don’t have much information about the price but we have a lot of information to use. The original Nintendo Switch was set at $300, which is a “magic number” when it comes to Nintendo console releases in recent years. The Wii U also came in at $300.
However, there are many rumors circulating that Nintendo may raise the price of the Switch 2. Many outlets. announced it would be $400or more expensive. However, the same analysts who said the contract would be worth $400 were also convinced that it would expire at the end of 2024 and, this did not happen.
Going back in history, there are the beginnings of inflation. The GameCube was $200 and the Wii was $250. Wii U and Switch went up to $300 and, well, numbers tend to go up. The $400 price tag would make it as expensive as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This would also put it at the same price as the 256GB LCD Steam Deck.
Again, we should get price confirmation at the April 2nd Nintendo Direct.
Not so much. The reveal trailer gave a glimpse at the new Mario Kart game. Nintendo released Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U ten years ago and has been a cash cow ever since, having sold over 64 million copies of the game on the console and Switch. It’s time for a fresh start!
Of course it’s been a long time We’ve also got a proper 3D Mario adventure, so the new one can be a launch title. That would be one of the seller’s plans. Besides, your opinion is as good as mine. The old as the introduction, we can expect something from Ubisoft with such a wall title 1-2-Change.
If there’s a gimmick or hook involved with the contract, we’ll find a game that takes advantage of it. Double release of Metroid Prime 4like Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess before that, it is also possible.
It’s all but nailed down that we’ll learn more about the Switch 2 update at the April 2nd Nintendo Direct. You will definitely want to set your Alarm about that one.
That’s all we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 today. We will update this story with the rumors we believe and the information we get from our sources. Any changes made after first publication will be listed below.
