Mistral signals cooperate with AFP to provide the latest solutions in Le Chat


Just after the day of Google inked partnership with The Associated Press, Mistral too to announce content with Agence France-Presse (AFP) to improve the accuracy of the answers in CatMistral’s chatbot product.

This is the first of its kind for the Paris-based intelligence agency. And it shows that Mistral doesn’t want to be seen as a “mere” foundation.

It also wants to create attractions, starting with Le Chat. From what I have heard, the company is also working on dedicated software to acquire Le Chat and compete better with ChatGPT or Claude.

In the future, Le Chat will be able to enter AFP’s daily news. And since the AFP is one of the largest organizations in the world, this it represents more articles – about 2,300 articles per day in six languages ​​(Arabic, English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish).

Le Chat will be able to consult all AFP documents since 1983. However, photos and videos are not part of the multi-year agreement. As a reminder, Mistral focuses on large languages ​​and does not provide any graphical examples. Image processing in Le Chat is powered by Black Forest Labs’ Flux Pro.

OpenAI has been at the forefront of the business world. The creator of ChatGPT has partnered with AP, Axel Springer, Condé Nast, El País, Financial Times, Le Monde, and others. It will be interesting to see if Mistral has more partnerships in the works.

“We believe that improving the accuracy of (Le Chat) solutions is an important step in positioning our technology, especially for businesses,” Mistral co-founder and CEO Arthur Mensch said in a statement. “Through this partnership, we are providing our customers with a unique multi-cultural and multi-lingual solution.”

Today’s agreement is also the first for the AFP. And it couldn’t have come at a better time, with Meta ending its third-party content analysis program just last week. AFP was one of the contributors to Meta’s reality check. “Through this agreement, AFP is increasing its revenue,” AFP chairman and CEO Fabrice Fries said in a statement.

Although the AI ​​industry is looking to improve its products with these arrangements, there are two problems that can be considered beneficial. First, AI companies can position themselves as (financial) partners with media organizations. Second, these associations protect them from things that might want to be broken.
