Comedian Jay Leno’s goal is simple: feed the people who are there “to save your life” in the middle burning fires in the Los Angeles area.
The legendary late-night talk show host, 74, cooked up more than $21,000 worth of ribs, chicken and more for the first responders that happened last week fighting the flames in southern California.
“My God, these guys can eat. They’ve been through everything,” Leno said. “We need more food.”
“So we have more food today. We have more food tomorrow, more food Thursday,” he added.
Leno likened the setup of the Los Angeles Fire Department to a “military operation,” praising their ability to work tirelessly, even as flames. turn the area into a “war zone”.
“Everybody thinks Malibu is heaven, but you have heaven and hell literally on the same street,” Leno said. “Around here, there’s nothing, and around here, it’s just the chimneys that are standing.”
Sitting in front of his vintage fire truck, the former talk show host told NewsNation “I COME“Tuesday has seen an unparalleled sense of community and care among Californians during the tragedy.
“It doesn’t matter what sign you have on your lawn. You know, it comes down to neighbors looking out for each other,” Leno said.
“I haven’t heard any political opinion. I’ve only heard people asking: ‘How can we save this?'” he added.
