In 2024, streaming fans have more choices than ever, including NBC/Comcast’s PeacockAT&T’s HBO Max, Apple TV Plus and Disney Plus. Even Peacock is a little different because it features the latest news while other services don’t have traditional channels — focus in catalogs and new programs first — but they can still eat into your entertainment budget.
Netflix: Netflix is so popular that it has become a marketing buzzword similar to “Magic Marker” or “Coke” in the South. Then there’s “Netflix and chill.” Marketing aids plans now start at $7 per monthand the service offers thousands of TV shows and movies, including TV shows like Black Mirror and Stranger Things (be aware that you may need to pay up to a $15.50 plan to watch some). So there is Original Netflix movies including Oscar winners The Romans and The Power of the Dog.
Prime Video: A great “other” advertising service, which is included as part of the $139 Annual Membership, or on its own for $9 per month. The interface is as easy to use as Netflix, but the service also offers shows not on its competitors, including the basics like. Rings of PowerThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Expanse. Amazon Prime has it too the ability to add basic methods (HBO and Showtime etc.), making it a one-stop shop.
Disney Plus: One of the biggest streaming services launched in a while, Disney has put together a mix of movies, TV shows and specials, including Loki, Andor and She-Hulk, starting at $10 a month. Read our Disney Plus review here.
Peacock: Peacock is NBC’s answer to Paramount Plus. Its biggest claim is that its basic level, which has 7,500 hours, is free. Peacock Premium unlocks more for $8 a month – including exclusive shows like Poker face and Ms. Davis — while an ad-lite version called Peacock Premium Plus is $14 a month.
Paramount Plus: Paramount Plus costs $8 per month or $13 per month with no ads. This service provides Live TV for Premium subscriberssports and on-demand content from CBS, MTV, BET, Nickelodeon and the Paramount Network, including its own movie studio Paramount Pictures. Paramount Plus also offers exclusive originals such as Yellowjackets, 1923 and Picard.
Voodoo is Movies Everywhere: Digital libraries (or archives) that contain heritage UltraViolet content and movies and TV shows available for purchase, such as new ones.
