President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, was interrupted by at least three protesters during his Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday.
“Veterans are killing themselves and homeless, but we’re sending money to bomb kids in Gaza,” a protester in fatigues shouted as she was escorted from the audience, Fox News Digital video shows.
Hegseth appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday morning as lawmakers questioned them ahead of the committee’s vote and final confirmation vote on his nomination for defense secretary.

An elderly man who was handcuffed with zip ties was also seen being escorted out of the audience. Another man, who also appeared to be wearing fatigues, was seen by the Capitol Police.

Hegseth, a former Fox News anchor, has spent his days in recent weeks on Capitol Hill meeting with senators to rally support as he battles allegations of sexual misconduct, excessive drinking and mismanagement of an organization veterans nonprofit. Hegseth has denied the allegations and has promised not to drink “a drop of alcohol” if confirmed in Trump’s cabinet.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., asked Hegseth about the protesters during his hearing, including about the ongoing war on Israel since 2023.
“Another protester, and I think this was a member of Code Pink, which by the way is a Chinese Communist front group these days, said you support Israel’s war on Gaza. I support the existential war Israel in Gaza. I guess, like me and President Trump, you also support this war,” Cotton said.

“I support Israel by destroying and killing every last member of Hamas,” Hegseth replied.
“And the third protester said something about 20 years of genocide. I guess it’s our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. You think our troops are committing genocide in Iraq. and Afghanistan“Cotton continued.

I think… our troops, as you know, as many on this committee know, they did the best they could with what they had. … And tragically, the outcome that we saw in Afghanistan under the Biden administration put a stain on that, but it doesn’t put a stain on what those men and women in uniform did, as you well know, Senator Hegseth replied.
