Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth’s opening statement was repeatedly interrupted by several protesters who were quickly removed from the hearing room after disrupting his confirmation proceedings with yelling and screaming.
At least three protesters were removed from the chamber by Capitol Police, prompting Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) to angrily admonish the crowd.
“You’re a misogynist! You’re a Christian Zionist,” shouted an elderly man before police ushered him out of the room.
Wicker thanked the police officers for doing the check again.
“I want to thank the authorities for their quick reaction to this outbreak and affirm that similar outages will be treated in the same way,” Wicker said.
Hegseth thanked Wicker “for having my back figuratively and literally.”
