Lightweight drones are making a bit of a comeback in 2025. We’ve seen plenty of small drones to take off and land in the palm of your hand, but the new DJI Flip offers one of the most stylish drone designs ever. Flip is another lightweight drone that can launch anywhere. Like last year’s $200 DJI Neo, It also includes several automatic recording modes for vloggers who don’t want to mess with software or physical controls. The best upgrade to the Flip is the 48MP, 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, which can shoot 4K, 60 FPS video with HDR. The Flip can also record slow-motion videos at up to 100 FPS in 4K.
DJI let us fly drones around with a short indoor demonstration outside of CES. Although we didn’t have a chance to test its speed, I was impressed with its stability in the air. If you are familiar with drones, you probably see the similarities between the DJI Flip and the HOVERAir X1. The $520 MSRP drone is also slim enough to fit in a purse or large bag. Like the Neo, the device doesn’t include GPS or obstacle avoidance technology, although the DJI Flip can detect nearby objects to avoid crashing into a tree. Avoiding the DJI’s obstacles can be difficult, but turning the drone into a sports game allows you to crash into as many walls as you want.
The DJI Flip sits between the smaller, lighter DJI Neo and the DJI Mini. While the Neo was noisy and surprisingly loud, especially indoors, the Flip is more stable thanks to the longer wings. It sounds more like a bug than a breeze, especially when flying indoors. Another advantage of the large lens is that it also accepts ND filters for high-speed shooting. DJI said it will sell a pack of 16, 64, or 256 ND filters, though they are sold separately.
The DJI Flip retails for $440, though if you want the RC 2 controller, you’ll have to pony up $640. The Fly More Combo with controller, three batteries, and charging station costs $780.
