Shure MV6 Review: A Great-Looking Sports Mic

Getting started is as easy as plug and play, but you’ll need software to get into any settings. I’m not a big fan Reason Mix software recommended on the box. Before I downloaded it, Shure required my full name, city and state, zip code, and email address in order to receive app updates, which seemed unnecessary.

The program allows you to switch to manual gain, change the tone slider from Dark to Bright, and Natural in the middle, and turn on or off the denoiser and plosive reducer, as well as change the high filter of the background noise. There are also settings for lighting and mute if you choose to shoot with Motiv Mix. There is nothing wrong here, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to get these changes in another way. I wish there were only holes for the mic.

As far as I know, the settings you change stick even when the app isn’t open, so feel free to change it, then close it and go back to whatever you were doing. I did a few comparison tests with different settings and recorded it myself, and after listening back I felt that the default settings worked well. There is nothing here that I would consider unusual or offensive in any way. The plosive downloader works so well it doesn’t need a pop filter for my Ps. I didn’t notice a big improvement in the denoiser, although this is helped by the rejection of the rear mic, which helps me keep the keyboard noise out.

Auto-level had me peaking when I screamed at a whisper, but it changed quickly, waking me up quickly when I spoke quietly. It’s best not to worry too much about levels, as there’s no quick-reflective feature, and the MV6 has no controls or feedback.

People who listened to recordings or chatted with me in Discord noticed that my voice sounded clearer and clearer, a noticeable improvement over sensor in my usual game. I think you can easily use this speaker for occasional streaming or calling, and you won’t regret it. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything smart if I use this in my place Audio-Technica AT2035especially when it comes to formal speech. Audio engineers may feel differently, but if you’re not looking at waveforms or recording audiobooks, you probably won’t.
