Do not fly your drone over a wildfire. While recording a video of the fire may be tempting, it can hinder firefighters from doing their job. This is what happened in Los Angeles on January 9 when a drone collided with a ‘Super Scooper’ firefighting plane, The LA Times reported.
This comes as LA is battling its worst wildfires in history, burning thousands of homes and killing thousands at least 10. A drone strike forced the aircraft to abandon its mission and take another strike to repair it. Pictures of the plane show a visible hole in its wing:
Police are now trying to determine who was flying the plane, the LA Times reported, and the matter is being investigated by the FAA. The LA Fire Department warned that flying a drone during a firefight is punishable by up to 12 months in prison or a $75,000 fine.
