Chelsea are currently going through a bit of an injury crisis in defence, which has forced the club to consider recalling Trevoh Chalobah on loan.

Injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile have left Enzo Maresca’s side short of options in central defence, forcing the club to rely on graduate Josh Acheampong, who made his Premier League debut in the recent 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

Chelsea are eyeing Trevoh Chalobah as a short-term solution to their injury crisis

And according to the report from Football Londonthe current situation has led to the club considering terminating Chalobah’s loan spell with Palace this month.

Chalobah joined Palace on a season-long loan at the end of the summer transfer window after being deemed surplus to requirements by new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

The Blues boss opted to leave Chalobah out of pre-season, with a surplus of defensive options at the time including Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabio and Axel Disasi. He was also one of the few players to be banished from the Blues’ first-team squad.

Since his move, the 25-year-old defender has flourished under Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. Chalobah has made 12 appearances for the Eagles, contributing three goals, including a key goal in their recent 2-1 win over Southampton.

While Palace reportedly want to keep Chalobah until the end of the season, the club are reportedly ready for his potential departure, with other defensive options available in their squad.

For Chelsea, bringing Chalobah back to Stamford Bridge would solve their immediate defensive concerns. The versatile Englishman, who can play across the back line, offers much-needed Premier League experience compared to the relatively unproven options currently available to Maresca.

Maresca impressed in his debut season at Chelsea

The former Leicester manager has done an outstanding job in his debut season with the Blues so far, losing just 4 league games to sit 4th in the points table just four points behind 2nd placed Arsenal.

However, their recent form has become shaky, with two defeats and two draws in their last 4 games.

Maresca will be hoping to sort out the defense and get back to winning ways to continue their push for the top 4 and potentially beyond.
