The US warns of the risk of most online pharmacies in the world



The Office of the US Trade Representative warned that there is a risk of ineffective or dangerous drugs online pharmacies which are managed illegally.

In a report released on Wednesday, the bureau singled out 19 countries that raised concerns about the possible movement of counterfeit or pirated drugs.

“Counterfeiting and piracy are a shared global concern, harming people not only in the United States but also in other countries,” said Katherine Tai, US Trade Representative. he said in a statement. “I urge our trading partners to join us in the fight against counterfeiting and pirated products.”

The bureau also released its list of notorious markets that focused on the growth of illicit online pharmacies. He called on trading partners to improve criminal and border enforcement to combat counterfeit medicines.

The list identifies 38 online and 33 brick-and-mortar marketplaces that are reported to engage in or facilitate “substantial trademark counterfeiting or copyright piracy.”

About 96% of online pharmacies were found to be working against the law, operating without a license or selling drugs without prescriptions or safety warnings. The Associated Press noted.

The report highlighted the “evolving nature” of counterfeit sales, including from China, and that the websites of these pharmacies often look like legitimate platforms and sometimes have false claims of approval by the Food and Drug Administration. Administration.

The agency’s investigation pointed to a number of successes over the past year, including cooperation between the US government and foreign governments to combat piracy and counterfeiting efforts in Vietnam, Brazil, Kuwait and the Philippines .
