Microsoft has announced an artificial intelligence partnership in India’s biggest regions on Wednesday, a day after the announcement. has promised to invest $3 billion in the country over the next two years while increasing competition with rivals Google and Amazon.
The tech giant’s CEO Satya Nadella (pictured above) unveiled deals with five major corporations in rail, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and education.
This includes collaboration with India’s Ministry of Energy and IT, as part of which Microsoft will support the IndiaAI Mission Datasets platform to support data collection and manufacturing.
The company will also train 500,000 people in AI technology by 2026, and the two will also establish an AI Center of Excellence, called AI Catalysts, to promote rural AI technology and establish AI labs in 20 national training institutes.
RailTel, a government-backed company, has entered into a five-year partnership with Microsoft to drive “digital transformation, cloud and AI” in Indian railways. Apollo Hospitals plans to create AI “assistant” for the hospital. Bajaj Finance, India’s largest non-banking company, expects annual cost savings of $18 million by 2026 through the implementation of AI. Edtech startup Upgrad will work with Microsoft to develop software to use AI in the workplace.
The push comes as Google and Amazon rush to expand their AI offerings with Indian businesses, and Nvidia boycotts contracts providing AI chips to major Indian companies.
In October, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced a partnership with Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries to develop AI infrastructure. The chip maker has also signed an agreement with Tata Communications and Yotta Data Services to ship thousands of H100 chips.
Google, which has been operating in India for over two decades, recently introduced new AI tools for Indian entrepreneurs allowing them to build their digital presence.
