Dreame’s X50 robot vacuum can climb stairs

Robotic vacuuming can make cleaning easier but, depending on the condition of your home, it may not work with every plan. Chinese appliance manufacturer Dreame hopes to address this with its X50 robot vacuum that can climb small steps without assistance.

Even before the robot vac took off in the US, it had already been invented others buzz thanks to it’s a teaser posted on YouTube last year (X50 is already available in China). Now, the $1699 X50 is made in the US at CES 2025and Dreame offering a detailed look at his art.

Dreame says the X50 can handle stairs up to 6cm (about 2.4 inches), thanks to the “ProLeap System,” which relies on a motorized arm under a vacuum that can run and lift it up the stairs. So while the X50 will not be able to climb large stairs (the height of the stairs in the middle of the house is between 7 and 8 inches, according to Google), it must manage small stairs and other obstacles that can interfere with other robot vacuums.

We saw it in action on the CES show floor and the X50 was able to repeatedly manage small steps. And, for those worried about broken “legs”, Dreame says the robo vac can handle about 30,000 “actions” on average.

In addition to its ability to climb stairs, the X50 can drive under seats and recognize more than 200 types of objects, helping it detect obstacles in its path. It also has a hot water sprayer and a special brush to brush hair without messing it up.

Dreame is opening pre-orders for the X50 on January 7, with pre-orders also receiving a two-year warranty and additional cleaning supplies. The vacuum goes on sale officially on Amazon and Dreame on February 14.
