Asus Launches All-Ceraluminum Zenbook A14

Asus Zenbook A14 uses the same ‘Ceraluminium’ material which feels as light as plastic, but is not plastic.

I still can’t get enough of it words like “Ceraluminium” it is more than a marketing gimmick. Asus’ latest Zenbook models have continued to impress me with their ceraluminum covers. Now enter the Zenbook A14, a new laptop that is all-ceraluminum, from the cover to the frame to the bottom. The only parts that don’t have this unpleasant name are the keycaps and the screen itself.

The $1,100 Asus Zenbook A14 weighs 2.2 pounds and is so thin that I’m afraid I might break it with my fingers. The Zenbook S14 starting in 2024 clocks in at about 2.8 pounds in an apples-to-apples comparison. It’s already light. You shouldn’t have any trouble putting it on your bed from your computer. The Zenbook A14 is lighter than that by a large margin. Thanks to its anodized ceramic material with solid construction, it does not have any kind of metal.

One of the things that makes it so light is the CPU. It packs up to Snapdragon X Elite chip with 45W TDP. ARM-based CPUs already do a good job at power consumption. The laptop packs a 70 Wh battery, but Asus says it should provide 32 hours of life and video playback. I find this test to be more useful than the daily battery test, but we want to test it ourselves.

It packs a 14-inch OLED screen outputting at 60 Hz, but the best part of this PC is its weight and size. The device features what Asus calls an “easy-to-carry hinge” that takes no effort to lift. Simple hinges can be a touch, but Asus has repeatedly told us that the device will be closed. Asus also claims that the material makes the device more durable. Although it is a small package, it includes an HDMI port and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. This device supports WiFi 7 as well.

There are two models to choose from, although the $900 “Zabriskie Beige” (which refers to the area of Death Valley, California) will only carry the Snapdragon X Plus and 16 GB of RAM. The gray version will be available in January, but you will have to wait until the end of March for the beige version (which belongs to Best Buy).
