As the official black gates on the 2019 website, Alienware is Naruto running back to Area 51. The Dell brand is giving old fans a chance to enjoy the beauty of the old school-style. The new Area-51 laptop looks the part, offering rounded corners and RGB lighting reminiscent of Alienware’s classic designs. In contrast, Area-51’s desktop looks like its current, more functional form. Except—this time—it’s very real.
The new 16- and 18-inch Area 51 laptops are the big brothers of the m16 R2 and m18r2 from 2024. Both include an Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX or Core Ultra 9 275HX option, plus Nvidia’s 50-core GPUs. There are other options up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM (32 GB includes DDR5XMP at 7200 MT/s). The laptop supports 175W of TGP, which would be necessary to support the top 50-series GPUs. We’ve also tested Intel and Nvidia’s latest gaming desktop options, but what you’re here for is pretty much the same. The basement has a small window looking out over the other areas.
I didn’t get to “use” the Area-51 laptops in any way before CES, though I did note their keys and CherryMX mechanical switches and found myself reminded. previous gaming laptops and their full mechanical keyboards. It was surprisingly fun that I haven’t heard from a laptop in a long time, and that alone makes me excited to try them out. As for visuals, both laptops include a QHD+ (2,560 by 1600) resolution IPS LCD that goes up to 240 Hz.
Area-51 laptops start around $2,000, but configurations with top-of-the-line 50-series cards will start at $3,200. They should be around from early 2025, with more options coming after that.
Alienware has been evolving its systems over the past few years. There is nowhere there more clearly than and the latest Aurora R16 desktop and its general form than in the past sci-fi design. The same structure is RGB loop and circled, the square frame is transferred to the new Area-51. It’s huge, and the pictures don’t do justice to its sheer size. The case is supposed to have 50 Nvidia GPUs. It includes a mounting bracket to act as a cable for these large cards up to 450mm in length. This deck is so big that it needs to be future proofed against any cards that might get bigger. Similar to its size and value. The new desktop should be available sometime in the first quarter of 2025, though the starting price will set you back $4,500.
The case itself is 24- by 9-inches by 22-inches in size. Powering the next generation Nvidia GPUs is no joke, so the Area-51 includes an 850W 80 Plus Gold or 1500W 80 Plus Platinum PSU. In contrast to the power and storage space of the hard drive more than the storage space of the SSD. If you have an old drive that you need to put into your PC, Area-51 gives you extra room.
A major concern with the Area-51 is that its positive pressure airflow cooling will work. Conventional fans take in cold outside air and exhaust it through other fans. The idea is that all fans point inward while hot air slowly escapes through the rear vents—no exhaust fan needed. It’s a method that’s been around for years, with the added benefit of graphics cards that claim to provide better cooling than most traditional fans. Alienware says their new platform is 13% cooler than other fans and is quieter while doing so.
