Smart glasses are all trying to be smart. In the constant quest to find a way to our face, companies are creating a more attractive look glasses promising AI on board that can fit into our lives using built-in cameras. Meta has already paved the way to that future with technology Cut out the Ray-Bans and future dreams of Meta Orion glasses loaded with ARwhile Google and Samsung have plans for AR glasses using Android XR. RayNeo, another AR glasses company, has a few AR glasses announced this year. CES show in Las Vegas and it is coming this year which is aimed at the same area.
The RayNeo X3 Pro is an upgrade to the line of AR glasses I’ve tried it beforebut they are less this time. The 3-ounce glasses look beautiful every day from the RayNeo screens, but they also have dual Micro LED displays that are displayed on the transparent glasses via waveguides. The previous RayNeo glasses had a VR chip to use its AR/AI features, the same chip that was on the Quest 2. This time, the glasses use Qualcomm’s AR 1 Gen 1 chipset which focuses on lens size and AI control. They still have dual cameras, room tracking and hand tracking. The X3 Pro is coming later in 2025, at an as yet unknown price.
The previous RayNeo X2’s lenses were bulky, had limited battery life and were heavy (4.3 ounces compared to 3 ounces on the X3 Pro). According to the reviewersthey also had a very narrow field of view, restricting the view to a small floating window.
Will the X3 Pros be better and more reliable? CNET will hopefully feature them soon, so we’ll know more. These glasses also do not appear to be part of Google’s upcoming AR- and AI-focused Android XR at the moment, although sometimes it would make sense for them to be.
Some of the new RayNeo lenses follow a familiar pattern: the X3 Air is a reflection lens, similar to that found in Xreal and others. RayNeo promises a 200,000:1 contrast ratio, a similar 201-inch display and better sound, but it doesn’t seem to be able to turn off new displays. Xreal One glasses can – and there is no reality in the field of view or display type. The V3, meanwhile, is a pair of camera lenses with accents, similar to Ray-Bans’ Meta. Both glasses look set to arrive in the second half of this year, too, with no current prices.
What makes me happy is that the lenses of the X3 Pro are very small. AR glasses are getting closer to the kind of things that Meta promises are starting to arrive, although the RayNeo segment is undoubtedly less…
