SolidddVision smart glasses, the first true vision correction for people with vision problems due to macular degeneration, is debuting at CES 2025.
Macular degeneration is an eye disease that causes people to have difficulty seeing what is in front of them. Although their peripheral vision is good, their central vision is severely impaired. Macular degeneration mainly affects the macula, the central part of the retina that produces sharp, detailed vision. This makes it difficult to see clearly, read, recognize faces, or do things that require good vision.
The smart glasses technology was developed by Soliddd Corp., a New York City-based technology company focused on restoring and improving the eyesight of millions of consumers worldwide who suffer from macular degeneration and other vision problems.
Scientifically developed and user-tested, Soliddd smart glasses are lightweight and feel like regular glasses. SolidddVision provides the first true vision correction—and, restoration—for people with vision loss due to macular degeneration.
Smart glasses use special Soliddd lenses, which are similar to the eye of a fly, to create several different images on the parts of the retina that are not damaged. This allows the brain to naturally create stereosis (creating a 3D image in the brain) and one complete image with a good quality that feels strange, focused.
At CES, Soliddd has a beta version of its technology. It will also present a pre-developed version of the smart glasses, in their final form, as the company prepares for clinical trials and market launch in 2025.
Soliddd’s design has been over ten years in the making, developing its 3D technology, 15 US patents and additional foreign patents (plus others pending) with optics and computer software including computer AI technology.
SolidddVision smart glasses use special features and software to illuminate different scenes, focusing on the same light field for all areas of the retina. The brain forms a single, stereo, complete image with fine art from multiple sources to each eye. Even if some areas of the wearer’s vision are blocked or out of focus, the small amount of information received in other areas of the retina is integrated, resulting in the wearer seeing a full, stable and bright image.
“Soliddd created the first vision control system for macular degeneration. We can see areas where patients can’t see anything,” said Neal Weinstock, CEO of Soliddd, in a statement. “SolidddVision smart glasses are lightweight and easily integrated into everyday life. Our team is focused on helping to restore and improve the eyesight of millions of consumers around the world who have vision problems due to macular degeneration.”
The success of SolidddVision smart glasses has been supported by doctors and scientists including many renowned ophthalmologists, retinologists and optometrists.
“I was able to see many demonstrations of SolidddVision with patients affected by many eye diseases including macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and stroke,” said Georgia Crozier, director of the Moore Eye Institute Vision Rehabilitation Center in Pennsylvania, in a statement. “These patients responded well to the improved vision and they all believe it will help them in their daily activities. The improvement in their reading vision and the ease of use was impressive. This technology will be a success.”
Scientists at New York’s Lighthouse Guild reviewed data from a 30-person clinical study conducted by Soliddd on people with macular disease. They found the results to be very encouraging for the SolidddVision technology, showing an improvement in reading for most participants by 50% or more.
SolidddVision smart glasses target the low vision market made up of more than 20 million Americans, and approximately 200 million people worldwide – and expected to grow – who have low vision due to macular degeneration.
The company has received numerous awards including MassChallenge Alumni 1St Location 2024; HITLAB Breakthrough Challenge, December 2023; Unicorn Cup, World 1St Location 2023; and Digital Hub Health Foundation, HLTH 2024. Going to CES 2025, Soliddd received the Consumer Technology Association Eureka Park Accessibility Award and Techlicious Editor’s Choice CES 2025 successful as one of the most innovative products and technologies that appear in society. It will be at the Venetian Expo, Eureka Park booth #62037, at CES 2025.
Soliddd has raised $1.5 million to date from investors including Beresford Ventures, Peaksjah OU, Global Capital Group, JMB Macro and angels Trout Moser, Derek Myers (Neoti) and others. The company has been in business for 15 years and has 12 employees.
