Five years ago, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda went to CES to share with the world his “dream unit” – a system building a model city on a 175-acre site at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan, where people lived and worked amid all of Toyota’s work, including autonomous vehicle technology, robotics, connected home technology, and AI.
Toyota returns to CESThe annual trade show in Las Vegas this year finally unveiled its “living laboratory,” called Woven City. Toyota’s press conference, where Chairman Toyoda will have a prominent role, will be held 1pm PT/4pm ET on January 6th at CES media day. The show will be broadcast online on the company’s website.
In the video that he laughs at the upcoming showToyoda wears a hard hat and a protective suit as he walks to the modern house. He reaches the top floor and then removes the window covering, revealing Mount Fuji in the background and shouts “Welcome to the Woven City!”
Details are limited on what will be revealed. TechCrunch, which was on the first announcement in 2020, will be looking to see how the basics will be integrated into the Woven City and whether Toyota followed through on its plans to build a well-connected environment with hydrogen fuel cells.
