iRobot is the ongoing economic crisis on the other hand, the world of the robot sweet spot is still humming along. Pa CES On Sunday, Roborock announced the Saros Z70. Roomba’s competitors are showing off what the company believes is the next big step in the robovac evolution: the arm.
The concept of manipulators aa arguably as old as robotics. Robotic arms, however, have proven to be very expensive and/or cost-effective on a mass production scale. The cost of manufacturing and sensors has come down – even if the product is too expensive for many.
I’ll happily hold off on judgment until I get a chance to have the machine at home, but questions remain about how it works – and how it works.
A five-axis robot arm extends from the surface of the vacuum. It can be expanded and folded, in order to remove obstacles from its path and take laundry items weighing less than 300 grams. The system is designed to create a breathing system only on the floor, before it comes back around to fit the items if needed. The arm sports an on-board camera and other sensors to guide itself in space
“The Roborock program will play a major role in how OmniGrip works,” the company says. “OmniGrip will be installed in the box, and users will have to activate it through the app, where they can choose different settings for its behavior. The app allows users to choose the objects that OmniGrip interacts with, the areas that should be placed. For peace of mind, the towel also has a lock button children and a safety stop, which allows stopping at any time.
The S70 starts shipping February 10, for a low, low price of $1,600.
