Former President Trump slams UK energy policy and says it should get rid of “windmills” after one company blamed the country’s windfall tax for its early exit from offshore drilling Northern Europe.
In a post on his social media site Truth Social, Trump wrote: “The UK is making a very big mistake. Open the North Sea. Get rid of the windmills.”
He included a link to an article from November on the planned early exit of the Apache oil company from drilling in the North Sea.
The article quotes an executive of the Texas company as blaming the UK’s Energy Profits Levy, also known as a windfall tax, for its exit “much earlier than would have been a reasonable period of time”. profits of companies extracting UK oil and gas.
Trump has embraced domestic oil and gas production and made it a centerpiece of his presidential campaign. He has also repeatedly criticized wind power.
