A large majority of Americans believe so President-elect Donald Trump will crack down on illegal immigration as the president-elect contemplates a historic mass deportation campaign and additional border security measures when he takes office this month.
A Gallup survey released Thursday found that 68 percent of Americans predict Trump will crack down on illegal immigration. Only 28% of respondents said they would not.
Trump made fighting illegal immigration a cornerstone of his presidential bid as the country grappled with a historic migrant crisis at the southern border.

“We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything about our country,” he said after winning the November election.
Trump has promised to launch the “biggest domestic deportation operation in American history.”
The former president has also pledged to invoke the Alien Enemies Act to “remove all known or suspected gang members, drug traffickers or cartel members from the United States” and move law enforcement to immigration application. He has also pledged to resume construction of a wall on the southern border. Construction began in his first administration, but was largely halted by the Biden administration.
Fox Digital has previously reported plans to increase the use of ankle monitors among those who cannot be detained and the possibility of expanding the detention of immigrants near the main metropolitan areas. Trump has named former acting ICE Director Tom Homan as border czar and nominated South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as the next Homeland Security secretary.
