Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has managed just two goals in the Premier League this season in 14 appearances.
The Uruguayan striker has struggled for Arne Sloto’s team this season. He got numerous opportunities to play this season due to injuries to other forwards.
However, the Dutch manager has still not been able to get the best out of him this season, despite improving the performance levels of other players at Anfield.
The Premier League leaders now want to replace him and sign the prolific striker at the club.
According to the report in Team talkthe Premier League giants are tracking Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram to replace the stricken Nunez at Anfield.
Both strikers are enjoying good seasons at their respective clubs and Liverpool’s interest in their services is no surprise.
Liverpool’s staff are eager to seal the ambitious transfer
Isak has scored 12 Premier League goals in 17 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side this season, while Thuram has managed 12 goals in 18 Serie A appearances for the Italian champions.
The addition of Isak or Thuram would boost Liverpool’s attack and give them a lethal presence in front of goal. That would give them another option, apart from Mohamed Salah, to score goals.
The report mentions that Liverpool are rejecting Newcastle United’s high valuation of Isak.
The Magpies reportedly want a record fee for their striker and the Reds don’t want to pay that.
Signing strikers like Isak or Thuram in the January transfer window would be very difficult for the Merseyside club. They would have to wait for the summer transfer window to make such a big move.
Financially speaking, the Reds are in a great position to spend money considering they didn’t spend much in the summer transfer window last year.
Giants of Serie A AC Milan was linked with the transfer of Nunez.
