Max Verstappen says he will not change his approach even though he was on the verge of banning the race ahead of the Grand Prix this weekend.
Verstappen got two penalty points for his collision with George Russell last time in Spain, which means he has 11 penalty points on his super lick in the last 12 months.
If the driver scores 12 criminal points during a one -year period, they are banned for the next event. Ever since the penalty system was introduced in 2014, only the Kevin Magnussen 2024 was suspended for the achievement of the marker a dozen points.
Verstappen will lose two penalty points at the end of June after the Austrian Grand Prix, but will have to Go through the race this weekend in Montreal, then an Austrian event, intact.
“Is there? Sky Sports F1.
Verstappen added written media when asked about changing the approach: “I don’t know, why should I?
“I can’t just get back from everything. I’ll race how I do it. I trust myself.”
Lando Norris discovered the intense nature of Verstappen’s race last year after the disputed battles in Austria, USA -ui Mexico.
Norris says Verstappen can even “fight more” because now 49 points behind the leaders of the Oscar Piastra Championship.
“Max is also one of the best in the world because of the way it is driving. I don’t think anyone can discuss it. I think it’s a pretty simple statement,” Norris said.
“What he did last weekend was obviously a little different from what he usually did. It was not just simple aggression and good, strong, on the verge of defensive moves. It was obviously a little separate from that.
“I think Max is as it is and has achieved what he has because of the way he drives, so there is no reason to change that side.”
Earlier on Thursday, on Montreal’s media day, Mercedes driver Russell said the ban on Verstappen would be justified if the Dutch driver reaches a total of 12 penalty points.
But the four -time world champion Verstappen says he “doesn’t care” because of the race suspension.
He said, “What is fair? I mean, is fair only 11 points? I don’t know, but at the same time life is not fair, if you look at it like that.
“I’m just coming here for the race and I will always race strongly, racing that I think I should race, and then we go to the next race.”
On Monday after the Spanish Grand Prix, Verstappen accepted that he was guilty of conflict with Russell, and Christian Horner said he had apologized to the team.
The Dutchman did not want to talk about incidents in Sunday’s post race and insists that it “is not difficult to” make a statement.
“I shared my view of things, as I thought that race was dropping. It was not ideal for me. That was my statement, and then I came back to enjoy my day.”
Verstappen was on his way to finish in third place behind two McLarens in Spain, until the safety car for Kima Antonelli connected Mercedes together did not collect the terrain.
Red Bull put Verstappen on hard tires because they had no other new tires, while everyone else in the top 10 were on Softs.
Verstappen had a great shooting of overburning from the last corner again and was overcome by Charles Leclerc, who briefly made contact with him. Russell also tried to go in 1, but the couple touched, and Verstappen cut his chicken to keep fourth place.
All of this in combination led to Verstappen’s increasing frustration, which culminated in telling him to release Russell, which Red Bull was not supposed to do after the managers thought the driver Red Bull did nothing wrong with the first Šikan.
“It was just a very frustrating several circles in a row. I got involved straight after I almost collapsed with these hard tires,” Verstappen explained.
“Then in return, in return, and then they tell me I have to bring back a place. I am like,” That doesn’t make sense, “so it was like many things that just merged.
“It was a wrong judgment in the corner. But you don’t have to go completely why, how and what. Everyone makes mistakes in life. Everyone learns from them and we just move on.”
Verstappen has won the last three Canadian Grand Prix, but McLaren will be favorites once again after the impressive season so far.
The Red Bull was relatively weak on the paths that have a lot of low -speed angles and over the impact, which is the latter main feature in the Gilles Villeneuve circle.
“If we can fight for the podium, fight Ferrari, Mercedes, I think it would already be a good achievement,” Verstappen said.
“McLaren goes fast everywhere. It’s not in my head. I’m more focused on other teams.
“I know that last year, for example, Mercedes was very strong here. I think if you compare last year with now, I think they may be more competitive. I think it will be difficult enough to fight for the podium.”
Piastra championship leader, who is looking for consecutive victories in the race for the second time this season, would not turn off Verstappen and expect that he will still be difficult to race.
“I think I’ll still race for me how I always race. I think I usually try to race pretty smart and get away from trouble,” he said.
“The good saying is that” it is often better to be in the race than to prove that you were right in the situation, “so I’ll try to keep it.”
