Fernando Alonso is not just the world’s double Formula 1 champion is a lifelong Real Madrid fan.
Born in Ovied in Spain, a racing legend was observed in Santiago Bernabé on several occasions and was even declared an honorary member of the club. So when he suggested that Los Blancos sign a player from his greatest rivals, Barcelona, it naturally made titles.
In an interview with DAZN ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso is a bold but intriguing question: “If you could sign one Barcelona player for Real Madrid, who would it be?”
Laughing, Alonso gave a playful – and strategic – the answer: “I would sign a peder for Madrid, to weaken Barçu. I do it on the PlayStation … and then I leave it on the bench.”
The comment, delivered to the smile of the tongue, caught many without fear. Since Barcelona just put Madrid in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup this season, some might expect Alonso to choose stars like Lamina Yamal or Raphinha, which are in 2025/26. Combined for a whopping 102 contributions from goal.
But Pedri – who was quietly returned to himself this year – was central to Barça’s dominance in the middle of the field, dictating the pace and controlling matches in a way that evoked legends like Xavi and Iniesta. Although he may not be the brightest name on the team, Pedri is undoubtedly one of their most important ones.
Although AlonS’s response may have started as a joke, it reflects the deeper truth: to hurt Barcelona, they have taken their heart rate.
