Mikel Arththa revealed that he predicted Arsenal, who raised the premier league title at their last home game this season – and invited his club to step up his team in a transfer window as part of the “very exciting summer”.

Arsenal took over Newcastle on a great Sunday in their last home game of the season. Gunners stand 15 points behind the Premier League Champion Liverpool and could even lose second Magpies if they lose.

It was a completely different scenario than what the Arsenal manager predicted in August.

“At the beginning of the season, if I had to visualize that moment, I would play the last home game last day and abolish the Premier League. I had that in my head,” he told Sky Sports News in an exclusive interview.

“Now, with everything we have gone through in the last 11 months, I think we can all lift our heads, but we still have that abdominal pain, because we want to achieve that.”

Arsenal has now left five direct seasons without a silver accessories, after throwing out of the Champions League semi -finals and semifinals Carabao Cup, while Manchester United kicked them out of the third FA Cup on penalties.

Asked what are the main reasons for achieving their goals this season, Arthtea was very clear: “Red cards and injuries, for sure.” Gunners suffered more injuries this season than any other Premier League team, while their six deviations are also divisions.

“But without that, we don’t know what happened,” Arsenal’s head added. “Would we be much closer? For me is the answer without a question, yes. Because of what we have produced and the performances we had.

“But we will have to do something else (next season) because it will at least be raised.

“And when you look at the points we have had in the last three seasons, the consistency of not winning the title is very rare. So, we are very close, so close in that probability, we still have to be there and be better.”

Furthermore on the statistics that costs Arsenal this season, Arsenal manager said: “One number is availability. Without that, you have no chance of winning anything.

“There are other statistics that are very, very relevant to win football games – not only dominate them, but also to win.

“But it is very clear to us what brings us success and what we have to do and then work on them, be more effective and be better. The second capacity to change the games is every three days and during the match – we have a great margin there.”

“We know we have to deal with it and we will do everything we can to improve it.

“Especially since we’ll lose a lot of players. There are players outside the contract, there are players who came here on loan.

“So, the team becomes really thin at the top of the injuries we have. We know we have this duty, we need that and we have players in the Academy who can help. Great, but if we don’t know what we have to do.”

Asked if the new center is forward at the top of that transmission list, Arththa replied: “Everything in both boxes makes you better, I think – at the end of the day – it’s a key element. We all know that.”

Arteta and Berta were aligned on what needed

Arteta also promised a “very exciting summer” in northern London, and said he and the new sports director Andrea Berta are completely aligned with what is needed on the transfer market.

Former transfera chief Atletico Madrid Bert arrived at Arsenal in March, replacing former sports director Ed Gaspara, who suddenly left the club in September.

“It will be a very exciting summer,” Artea said. “First of all, reviewing what we have done. Finding a way to increase the level of team. Finding big margins on which we can still develop our game model and our players, and then put together those plans, playing the preseason.

“And then if we don’t have enough, then what we need to hire now to make a difference.”

Asked about the conversations he led with Bert, Artea replied: “From the first day, when we talked about this role. He had before him, it was very clear that this, for me, what this team should go to the next level. And we were very harmonized.

“And you can say – the experience he has, he built great teams and the main trophies he won – someone with that clarity is very, very useful.”
