Amir Khan says that Manny Pacquiao, 46, should not face the WBC champion Welterweight Mario Barrios in his return fight on July 19. Khan believes that this is a “ticklish struggle” for Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 ko) because of his age and inactivity and fighting many younger 29-year-old Barrios (29-2-1, 19 ko). Khan, 38, suggests that Pacquiao should fight Barrios, because then the conflict would be uniform, because they are both retired.
WBC drew Heat this week with his decision to give an inactive Pacquiao to ranking #5 in Welterweight. He has not fought since 2021, and the last win was in 2019. Barrios is a textbook definition of a paper champion. He was raised to his status of the WBC Welterweight title, and then fought for a questionable draw against Abela Ramos passengers in the fight that fans believe he should have lost. Now he will fight Pacquiao. Khan says Barrios deserves to fight Pacman, but I don’t see that he deserves nothing but he took it off.
Khan’s first move?
“I am sure he will come to want to win this fight because it can change his life,” Khan said about Barrios. “If I advised Manny, I wouldn’t say I get back. You should come back to someone who is already retired, someone like me.”
Notice Khan’s self -serving tactics insert his name on Pacquiao Sweepstake. Khan should be happy about Barrios to get that big salary against a still popular retired 46-year-old Pacquiao, instead of trying to make a case for him fighting him. Khan’s bad results at the end of his career make him inappropriate for Pacquiao. He lost two of the last three fights before retirement. Pacquiao has nothing to get from the fight against Khan because after the world titles he added his legacy. There is no upside down against the washed 38-year-old Khan, who had not fought in three years since 2022.
