Former Indian cricket Madan Lal expressed his surprise because of Virat KohliThe decision to withdraw from tests before the test series with five matches in England, which begins on June 20th. A player who won the 1983 World Championships thought it was not his form or fitness, but the mental toll forced the 36-year-old to offer Adieu for the red ball format.
The 74-year-old added that Kohli was supposed to play a test series in England before making a big decision.
On Monday (May 12), Madan Lal told Mid Day:
“I’m a little surprised because there was a cricket left in it. He could have received a call after England. I don’t think his shape was the same as five years ago, but it’s hard to be the same.”
“I think he is mentally tired. Although I think he could continue another or two years, depending on his fitness and performance, I believe that after the last series in Australia he mentally decided that,” he added.
The former president of the selector, Lal, further illuminated Kochli’s features with a baton, saying::
“I will always remember Virat as one of the most intelligent bats. In India, you don’t get a lot of players like him. He focused a lot on fitness, but I suppose he has to deal with the expectations of people. Also, I feel that he needs to think about his family and other things.”
Pulling Virat Kohli from the tests followed five days after a regular captain Rohit Sharma knocked down curtains in a red ball career. The duo also withdrew from the T20IS after winning the T20 2024 World Cup for men in blue.
Kohli ended his test career with 9230 rides in 123 tests, which consisted of 30 centuries.
Madan Lal further added that the selectors were to support Virat Kohli when the latter stepped down from the role in January 2022. He said about that:
“I believe the selectors needed to get rid of him better. They needed to continue with him as a skipper for a long time.”
Virat Kohli remains the most successful Indian test captain with 40 wins in 68 tests, including 11 draws.
