Frank Lampard says that now is not the time to go down around the semi -final defeat of the first leg of his championship in the first first championship in Sunderland.
Sky Blues – who finished fifth, seven points behind his opponents during the regular season – on Friday night he dominated the ball to the Coventry Building Society Arena, but made a long spell by the defensive team of Regis Le Bris.
And although Jack Rudoni canceled Wilson Isidor opener within two minutes after hitting the back of the net, Milan Van Ewijk Blind Backpass donated Eliezer Mayena winner, who puts black cats on a driver’s seat in front Sky Sports.
“It was a good team performance,” he said. “We pushed and pushed and dominated the ball possession. We were unhappy to go out into the other leg.
“We played them here six, seven weeks ago or something, as we played the way we played, I understand him as a coach, you want to go out and deny the spaces we want, so we controlled it a lot.
“I couldn’t complain with the players in terms of low block. You can say it faster, do it, do it. It’s not easy. It’s not easy against it.
“And they defended their box well. Sometimes you just say good opposition.
“If you have eight bodies in the box and cross it, it’s hard. We defended ourselves well and another day things go for you for 90 minutes. We didn’t go tonight.
“Will the game look like this on Tuesday? I’m not sure. So, it’s certainly not time to get off too much about it.”
On the mistake of Van Ewijk, who left the Dutch defender in tears after the last whistle, he said, “We don’t have to talk about it now. He was great for us.”
Lampard recalled the 2018/19 season, when his derby lost 1-0 of Leeds in the semifinal first leg of the championship in the first leg in Pride Park, but scored four goals in the second half in an exciting second part to win 4-3 on the aggregate.
However, he did not want to be drawing comparisons.
“It has nothing to do with it because this is another group of players,” he added.
“They are another group of players. This is a different game. I understand your point, but it has nothing to do with it. It’s the past.
“It will be a tough game for us, but obviously it’s still very, very close.
“Let’s go on Tuesday again. Simple.”
Clinton Morrison on Sky Sports Football -u:
“They are still in this. They dominated the possession. They did not create as much as they wanted, but the game will open in the light stadium and they will simply go there full confidence.
“What they have there is a manager who knows what he is talking about. He will order them, relax and will not be critical of them.
“But he has to pick up Van Ewijk because he was in tears in the end. Everyone makes mistakes, but he has to recover and go again.”
Curtis Davies on Sky Sports Football -u:
“The difference with the screenwriting derby is that Leeds came in comprehensively defeated Derby (in the first part), and you think it will be the same in the second. They beat us three times that season, and you think going to Elland Road will be a sublime task.
“While his team dominated tonight, and in my opinion they were thus avoided. For Van Ewijk it is about his character and what he shows in training. If he makes a mistake in the next game, he could go.”
