Manchester United “is not yet in the finals,” says Amorim after a top victory Bilbao

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim told his players that they were not yet in the Europa League final after a famous 3-0 victory in the 10-year Athletic Bilbaou.

United looks good to return to Bilba’s San Mames Stadium for the finals for three weeks against Bodo/Glimt or Tottenham after Casemir’s header and double captain Bruno Fernandes, put them in complete control over the semifinals.

But the manager warned that the job had not yet been done.

“I think they have to think about the other leg,” he told Amor about his message to United players.

“And they have to think more about the first 20 minutes than the rest of the game because the game will be really tough.

“There are no guests of goals, so anything can change and that’s my message to the players, and now we have to think about Brentford and then the other leg.”

Asked if this is the best effect of United since he took over the duty in November, United Chief Coach said: “No, I think this is the best result because no one expected this result.

“But, again, I think you saw two games today – the first 25 minutes, then after the goal and also by sending the game changed.

“That was a good thing, also a good thing in the second half, we tried to be careful.

“We make a chance, but the most important thing is that the opponent did not get many shots to our goal and that was really important.”

United, or Tottenham, could still qualify for the Champions League with a win in the Europa League, despite the awful league seasons.

United enters the weekend in 14th place in the Premier League, with Spurs 16th.

“It’s hard to explain,” he told Amoric about the difference of Europe, where they remain undefeated. “We improve in the last games. I’m not just looking at the results.

“We had some games we beat that we didn’t play well and some games we lost, but we played well. Sometimes you just need a little luck.

“If you imagine the first 30 minutes, they have a chance to score. If they score, it’s a different game, so we have to understand these moments.

“When we score naked, we felt more and more free to play, so I know it’s hard. It’s a different competition.

“I know it’s hard to understand, but sometimes it’s a context, that’s the way we see things.

“We can win this competition and in the Premier League just suffer the game after the game, so try to manage both things with some injuries. Sometimes it’s harder even for players.”
