Charlotte Edwards supported Nat Sciver-Brunt to lead England forward and insists that it is a clear choice to take over as a new team captain.
Sciver-Brunt, who was in parenting after her first child’s birth, inherited Heather Knight as a skipper, previously served as a vice president.
Knight left his post after nine years after defeating white ash in England 16-0, and Sciver-Brunt took a role with 259 appearances in all formats.
“It was pretty simple. I was pretty sure it would be Nat,” Edwards said.
“She leads from the front in what she does, has complete respect for the group, and what I have most impressed are her leadership traits.
“She’s pretty neglected, pretty relentless for one of the best players in the world. I’ll hit her on the day of Matchda and she’ll do what she does best.
“It’s her team and she has to drive this team forward. She’s very excited.”
Sciver-Brunt was named ICC’s female cryrket of the year 2022 and 2023, and is currently not 3 on the ICC ODO rankings.
Her task is to re -hire England as they nourish the wounds of the highly observed ash.
“Losing 16-0 is not just because they are not in the condition, but that Australia was better than us,” Edwards said.
“It was clear in the winter. I call it ‘f’. But I impressed myself so much. They made it clear hard in the ash period.”
The time of Sciver-Brunta as the captain begins on May 21 with a series of white ball against West Indies, followed by five T20 and three ODO against India visiting.
Edwards also insisted that Sciver-Brunt’s predecessor Knight would still play a significant role for England.
“For me, it’s Heather enjoys her crisis and focusing on her hitting. He plays as I have ever seen her,” Edwards said.
“We had good conversations around the place where I see her role on the team, and I also want to see her bowling a little more.
“She was great around the group, really well with Natu – they were great friends for many years – and I truly think we’ll see Heather Knight to achieve a lot of running in the next few years.”
