Hey,
Coach Matt Myers from Team Nerd Fitness is here!
Steve is writing his Monday newsletter to help you improve your life, but he asked me to provide more specific guidance on health and fitness.
I’ve been doing this kind of fitness thing, just like Steve has been writing his newsletter.
(In fact, I emailed Steve in 2010 and we have been friends ever since – now co-workers are 8 years old!)
Over the past 15 years, I have been honored to coach many people. I have a front seat that actually helps people stick to their fitness goals (even if life gets messy (always).
Here are three lessons I’ve learned along the way – our coaches are helping people in life, busy people, big goals and brains every day, people who don’t always want to work together.
Let’s upgrade!
Tell me if this sounds familiar…
“I just need life to settle down…and then I’ll get back on track.”
Yes. Which version of “normal”? This is a myth.
Life won’t calm down. it Change.
Whether it’s a tough week of work, your child getting sick, traveling, caring for family members, or just trying to put your head on the water – life never seems to be settled for a long time.
So we have a plan to anticipate these challenges, not to derail it.
At Nerd Fitness, we call it Dialing mode.
By having multiple ways to stay on track, you continue to build motivation even if life becomes messy.
No normal. This is predictable!
Have you ever thought about yourself?
“I want to keep my body in shape, but I’m leaving.”
or,
“I used to be in good condition, but now everything feels like this Difficult. ”
These are totally normal ideas! (🙋♂️ I know I have them!)
But as time goes by, I have observed that these ideas often run out of energy for people to keep moving forward with perseverance.
So, what should nerds do?
That’s one of our favorite tools: Zoom in, zoom out.
enlarge:What do I need to do today?
enlarge (Every few weeks): Am I heading in the right direction?
Zoom in to help you focus on your daily operations and avoid the endless “I’m not there yet.”
Instead, you ask:
✅Did I do exercise today?
✅Did I get protein and vegetables for every meal? ETC.
Then, once every 1-4 weeks, take a step back and check for bigger situations:
What’s wrong?
What is a challenge?
What needs to be adjusted to change or target?
This rhythm is the focus of daily regularity, large-scale verification – is the real change.
How do you know if the strategy is right for you?
Find the right balance between being challenging and feasible.
Is it too easy? It won’t move the needle.
Is it too difficult? You won’t do this consistently.
For everyone, the right level of challenge is different.
Maybe tracking macros every day and exercising 3 times a week.
Maybe take a walk every day and prioritize fruits and vegetables in each meal.
Maybe it’s eating slowly and creating a bedtime for a better sleep.
There is no “correct” or “wrong” answer here. The right level of challenge will change you over time.
Don’t be afraid to try and adjust before finding that best position: Challenging enough to make people feel meaningful, but can be consistent.
These three courses are the core part we use in nerdy fitness coaches, and they help thousands of people stay in good shape even if life makes the curve ball pierce the curve.
Which one is most prominent to you?
Send me an email(Protected by email)” – I would love to hear what you are doing.
I’ll send this trick once every other week or so, so feel free to send you the problems you might have!
– Coach Matt
