Promotor Eddie Hearn says he thinks his fighter, Conor Benn, will have an advantage over Chris Eubank Jr. -om in terms of his youth and freshness for a rematch. Benn, 28, had his main success last Saturday in the first three rounds.
Benn lost the fight for Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 ko) unanimous decision in 12 rounds of 116-112 x 3 results last Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The two already have a contractual rematch. Benn (23-1, 14 ko) has already told Hearn that the rematch will be even more war. Maybe it’s, but it won’t go well for Conor.
Once Eubank Jr. changed his style in the fourth round by moving to the interior, Benn was helpless the rest of the night. He seemed to have lost each round of four.
The rematch could be the same with Eubank Jr. By neutralizing Benn’s speed and power struggling inside. This is something that will not change, no matter how many times they fight. Conor is a guy who has to be at a distance to create strength and speed on his shots. Inside, he is not more powerful than Eubank Jr.
“I think we are in the advantage of rematch in terms of our freshness. It took a lot from both men, but Conor is still young. Now he has returned to the gym, and Eubank needs a huge amount from him,” said Promotor Eddie Hearn to BoxingGiving the Conor Benna update after the loss of Chris Eubank Jr. -And last Saturday night.
It doesn’t matter if Benn is young. Hearn spoke about Devin Haney potentially worn out of his last fight against Ryan Garcia.
Haney, 26, is two years younger than 28-year-old Benn. Ryan did not hit him almost as many times as Conor did in his loss from Eubank Jr. -And after he went in that fight last weekend, he won’t be fresh for a rematch.
“They both signed for a rematch. That’s one of the reasons why we took the job because we knew these were too many fights and all the conditions were the same,” Hearn said. “I said at a press conference that you have to look out for your guy. You don’t want too many fights because it pulls it out to you.”
Limited alternatives
Benn does not have other great opportunities for big salary fights, and this may be his only opportunity to get another giant day. He will not make a similar money to fight Jaron ‘Boot’ Ennis.
Guys like Devin Haney and Ryana Garcia are unlikely to be interested in fighting Benna if she loses Eubank Jr. He would have to prove himself at 147 by defeating Ennis, WBO’s champion Brian Norman Jr. or WBC at Mario Barrios’s belt. Conor’s chances against these champions are slender. He can’t pull out another older fighter and earn a big dollar.
Eubank Jr. is 35, and Bennovi and other recent opponents were old. Chris Algieri has 37. Chris van Heerden 37, Adrian Grandos 35 and Samuel Vargas 36. Conor has been fighting older fighters for years, and Eubank Jr. It’s just another example.
“I said to Conor,” Maybe you can see 147. “He looked at me and said, ‘If you think that struggle was war, wait until you see a rematch. ‘I feel that inactivity is not a factor now (for Benn), feeling more comfortable around that weight, we are very sure of a rematch. It will be brutal again, “Hearn said.
“We signed for that. Eubank signed for it, and we expect it to happen. Canelo is a different animal than Eubanka in 168. Conor Benn is the world class category. Canelo-Eubank will not end well. And if I EUBANK, I will, imagine that he will be heard more.”
