Wilson had a 6-3 lead after the first session, but when the players returned to the second session, Lei won six consecutive frames to put on the edge of the victory.
Despite the late return of Wilson who forced the decisive frame, Lei kept her nerves to book her place in the second round with a 10-9 win.
This means that Snooker’s ‘Crucible Curse’ continues for another year because the first world champion has never retained the title since the tournament moved to Sheffield in 1977.
