Maguire acknowledges Man UTD winning the Europa League over Lyon ‘The Weesden’ game in which he has ever played

Harry Maguire described the victory of Manchester United 5-4 over Lyon as the most interesting match of his football career.

The Old Trafford-Koja match ensured the passage of United to the Europa League 7-6 semifinals to the aggregate-even an experienced center.

England International scored a decisive goal in the 120th minute, one of the two that United scored in the last minute of additional time.

“It was an amazing feeling to achieve this winner in such an important game, in a game that was full of emotions and the strangest, sweetest game in which I had ever played or testified,” he said.

The game entered record books for another reason – it was the first European fixture to have five goals during an additional time.

United took over the early control at Old Trafford with the first half shots from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalota, carrying a pleasant 2-0 lead in a break.

But Lyon arrived back and Corentin Tolisso reduced the deficit and Nicolas Tagliaphico shortly after. The red card for Tolisso has shifted the match in favor of United, but it was the French side that hit.

Rayan Chekeki put Lyon in advance on the aggregate during extra time, and Alexandre Lacazette added another from the penalty area.

“I think they (Lyon) thought they had won him, the way they celebrated,” Maguire said. “It gave us more incentives to reverse the game.

“I’ve been here for six years and I have had a few great times and bad times. I think that game pretty much summarized its time at this club, to be honest.”

Looking in advance, Maguire added that even though the return was extraordinary, United must be tightened if they wanted to lift the trophy.

“I think the worst feeling that we felt that we threw it, instead of losing the game at that moment and how we managed to get into that situation,” he admitted. “Since even entry into extra time at 2-2, the momentum came back with us with sending, we should not end up in that situation.

“We have to do far better than we want to win in this competition – we can’t do it and leave it to reverse it in that situation.”
