Maximum Entertainment removes Merge Games property from Silver Lining

Maximum Entertainment announced this week that it is removing some of its assets from its support company, Join the Games. Specifically, it would have given the IP rights for certain games and product properties to Silver Lining Interactive, the UK publisher that is the founder of Merge. This drop is expected to happen while Merge Games is in the process of merging with Maximum.

According to the deal announced by Maximum, the company will own all rights to Smalland: Survive the Wilds, Bramble: The Mountain King, Pixelshire, Morbid: The Lords of Ire and Sunnyside. The seized assets also include 90 Merge Games titles, including Spirit of the North (a sequel said to have been developed at some point). Maximum receives a proposal of € 1,000,000 which is paid at the end, which happened on Monday.

Philippe Cohen, CEO of Maximum Entertainment, said in a statement, “This deal is an important step in managing Maximum Entertainment’s finances and eliminating our debt. Recently Merged founders, Silver Lining Interactive is the right partner for this sale. This deal places these divested IPs in hands and setting them up for success, while allowing Maximum Entertainment to focus on the roles we believe will drive 2025 and beyond.”

Merge Games was one of the many studios, many of which went out of business in 2024 and announced that they were merged with Maximum following. the closure of its Chelford office (a former regional manager said that, during this time, Merge had laid off all but two of its employees).
