Although the sleeping position varies greatly from bed to bed, one thing is certain: there is usually no picture of where you will sleep. Instead, the descriptions written by the hosts often give an idea of what to expect – whether it’s a private room, a bed, or sometimes sharing a bed with the host. This uncertainty makes the existence of each bed feel as if it is unique, created by the host and the place it provides.
Each picture in this series shows a different recipient—someone from a distant land with a unique history, career, and life. The types are amazing: a free woman from Mexico who works at Booking.com and parties every night, a public speaker from Canada, and a nudist in Brooklyn. Natcha’s glasses capture not only the audience but also the wonderful experience that happens when you live under someone else’s roof – sometimes comfortable, sometimes difficult, but always personal.
The project began during Natcha’s time at art school in New York, where he turned to Couchsurfing as a way to ease the loneliness of starting in a new city. For him, it was more than a way to get a bed at night—it was an opportunity to connect, learn, and grow. This series is a snapshot of these connections—some temporary, some enduring—and a reflection of how, in the end, we are all travelers looking for a place to call home.
