Manchester United legend, Eric Canton, released Sir Jim Ratcliffe, claiming that the Ineos chief is actively “trying to destroy” the essence of the football club.
Cantona, a cult hero at Old Trafford during a five-year stay in the 1990s, also revealed that his offer was rejected by a new minority owner.
Speaking at FC United from Manchester – a club that created fans disappointed with the ownership of the Glazer family in 2005 – Cantona spread to disappointment with the current United direction under Ratcliffe.
“Ever since Ratcliffe arrived, this team of directors has been trying to destroy everything and respect anyone,” Cantona said. “They even want to change the stadium. The souls of the team and the club are not in the players. All the people around them are like a large family.
“For me, Arsenal lost his soul when they left Highbury and I’m sure a lot of fans are missing highbury. It’s like when you get into the house and feel special energy. Can you imagine Liverpool playing in another stadium than Anfield? That’s impossible. I think United can play in another stadium from Old tradition.”
Since Ratcliffe’s investments were completed in February 2024, his leadership brought a wave of structural changes in United, including plans for potentially replacement by the iconic Old Trafford new stadium in 100,000 seats.
In addition to changes in the infrastructure, Ratcliffe’s leadership also included cleaning the staff cuts – about 450 dismissals in total.

“I think it’s very important to respect these people like you respect your manager and teammate,” he added. “Ever since Ratcliffe arrived, it is a complete opposite. He no longer wants Sir Alex Ferguson as an ambassador. He is more than a legend and I think we have to find this soul again.”
Cantona also revealed that he had personally reached to help with help during the transitional phase of the club – an offer that she said was neglected.
