Barcelona ‘can dream’ of the Champions League win says Flick

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick says his side “can dream of” ending 10-year-old waiting in the Champions League, but is set for a difficult task against Borussia Dortmund into a quarter of the finals.

Barca last won a trophy against Juventus 2015 and although they were impressive in the tournament this season, she would have to shine again to win last year’s finalists.

The sides meet in Barcelona on Wednesday, and former Bayern boss from Munich Flick ready for the test.

He said, “I’m not interested in statistics or past. I live here and now. What is calculated is here and now.

“It is the largest European tournament and we want to achieve the greatest possible success.

“We can dream, but players and coaches have to hold our feet on the ground. We have to look at what we have achieved, based on hard work, and that should not be the end.

“We have to give everything we have to continue. We want to remain undefeated this year, but we have to perform in the best order against a very strong opponent.”

The last defeat of Barcelona came into the hands of Atletico Madrid before Christmas and won in seven games in a row before drawing 1-1 with Real Betis last weekend.

Flick says he will enter a tie in a confident mood.

“I think we worked well in the Champions League, home and remote,” he said.

“We know how to win in the away game, how to move on … I have a lot of confidence in that. They look good.

“We have improved in many ways. We respond well in our matches. We are ready for this relationship.”
