Sri Lanka announce ODI squad for tour of New Zealand; Charith Asalanka at the helm



Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced the men’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealandscheduled to start in January 2025. The 17-strong team will be led by Charith Asalanka, representing an important opportunity for the young leader to showcase his skills in Kiwi country.

Schedule of the series

The ODI series will be held from January 5 to January 11, 2025, with matches scheduled in Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland. The dates of the matches are as follows:

  • 1. GO AWAY: 5 January 2025 in Wellington
  • 2. GO AWAY: January 8, 2025, in Hamilton)
  • 3. GO AWAY: 11 January 2025 in Auckland

Team composition and expectations

Turning on the mystery spinner Mahesh Theekshana bolsters the bowling attack, while the batting line-up boasts of talented players like Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka. Meanwhile, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dushan Hemantha and Dilshan Madushanka have been replaced by Lahira Kumara, Eshan Malinga and Waninda Hasaranga for the New Zealand tour.
