Hyundai is offering free adapters for Tesla NACs to its EV customers

Hyundai said Monday it will send customers who buy or lease an EV before January 31 a free adapter that will allow them to access Tesla’s advanced network.

Hyundai’s official adapter will give CCS-ported Hyundai EV drivers access to more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States, according to Hyundai. The free adapters will be available to eligible owners of the 2024 model year and older Kona Electric, Ioniq hatchback, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6 models. Hyundai said the 2025 model year Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5 N, and Kona Electric models are also eligible.

Customers must request a free NACs adapter through the MyHyundai owner’s website.

Support for Tesla’s charging dock and charging port – it is called the North American Charging Standard – has risen since Ford and GM announced plans in 2023 to integrate the technology into the next generation of EVs and sell adapters for EV owners to get access. Until then, every EV, except for Tesla, used Integrated Circuits (CCS).

Almost all other automakers followed suit, partnering with Tesla to provide customers with adapters for NACs. Others, including Lucid, have made arrangements include a charging port in future EVs.

The rollout hasn’t been as smooth as some had hoped, with many non-Tesla customers still waiting for adapters. However, some car manufacturers have started shipping adapters in recent months.
