Manchester United expects to continue playing at Old Trafford during the adjacent construction of a new club stadium of £ 2 billion, the older architect on the project confirmed.
Earlier this month, United revealed plans for a new 100,000 capacity stadium This would replace Old Trafford in the same place as their 115 -year -old home. Once the work begins, he promises to revive Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s dream of the creation of ‘Wembley from the North’.
Although the remodeling of the existing Old Trafford was considered, it was concluded that the construction of a brand new stadium was a better option.
Part of the problem associated with the addition of Old Trafford while sitting was an engineering headache and the costs arising from its proximity to the operating railway over the back of the southern booth. The new construction will remove the issue by moving a little western.
But it also means that by building near the current stadium it can remain in use until the time the club is ready to go over.
“The idea is to ensure that Manchester United can continue to play at Old Trafford throughout this process,” said architect Foster + Partners Patrick Campbell Manutd.com.
“So, we find the new stadium wide in the middle of the Bridgewater channel and the railway line, only west of the existing stadium.”
Although United has always been a club that has been proud of the best on the entire Committee, including infrastructure and content, the biggest drawback of the new stadium loses the history attached to Old Trafford, opened in 1910. Although very little original material survived after they were considered in this history in the Second World War and in 1990.
It is important to ensure everything that is built into the new Old Trafford.
“We are honored and privileged to be at a recent (Munich) memorial,” Campbell said.
“It is so powerful. It is so important and cannot be negotiated. It must be such an important part in the design as it appears. We want to work with fans to understand what important pieces are and what is the best way to continue that beautiful story of history and ensure that we can continue to honor these memories
“So, how could they integrate to a new stadium or public spaces around the stadium? Or how could we add to them. How can we (the area) do even more about Manchester United, history and a story that is unique to the club and unlike anything else?”
