Tottenham chief Ange Postecoglou praised his four leaders of their team while the Spurs held their season alive with a total 3-2 win over AZ Alkmaar to reach the Europa League quarterfinals.
Vice-President James Maddison, hoping to be involved in the first team of England Thomas Tuchel, hit at the beginning of the second half, while Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Maddison and Captain Son Heung-Mi first started together since October.
“I think all of these four leaders felt like it was their time. It was really difficult for them, it was really difficult for all of us, the whole club, but especially the players,” Postecoglou said.
“That’s the first time – someone said – since October we had our four leaders in the park; Vicario, Romero, Maddison and Sonny. We relied so much this year on one or two, but that all four of them have a difference for us.
“I thought everyone was running a team well. We looked more like ourselves, but we still have levels, because I still think players like Romera, Micky (Van de Ven) and Wilson Odobert and Home (Solance) and all these guys still build their way to respond to fitness and harmonize sharpness.
“Since the quarterfinals were three and a half weeks, there is an opportunity for these guys to speed up for that game.”
“The fans have been pushing us all the time. I hope I can do it by the end of the season” 👏

The Spurs were lowered in 13th place in the Premier League and outside both domestic Cup competitions.
So, winning in Europe was crucial on Thursday night, and they could still qualify for the Champions League by winning the competition. Now they face Eintracht Frankfurt over two legs next month.
Postecoglou added: “I think the way we solved it tonight was important. As much as we try to block the outer noise and I don’t mind that, I’m sure the players and the whole club were aware of tonight was a big night for us.
“When you are 1-0 down, you can get very concerned about it, but I never felt it. Until we didn’t give them the first goal, I thought the guys treated it great.
“Yes, on what was a big night, I couldn’t be happier with the way the players dealt with and that is their credit.
“We haven’t achieved anything yet. We are in the quarterfinals, now we are going” 🫡

“I think I said consistently that when we are at its best, we can compete with anyone.
“Now we get the opportunity to build some players and, hopefully, we still have some significant talent and they could come back. All this will be useful for us to reach the levels we need. “
