‘Only one team deserved to win’

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho says his side deserved a victory after being thrown out of the Europa League at the Rangers penalty kicks.

Goals in every half of the 90 minutes from Sebastian Szymansky deleted Rangers’s 3-1 first leg and forced extra time.

Jack Butland then saved two shots during the home winner to win up to the quarterfinals against Athletic Bilbao.

After that, Mourinho felt that his current side were the only team to win.

He said, “We played a fantastic game. Only one team played, only one team achieved, only one team deserved to achieve more, only one team deserved to win.

“Only one team (needed) had three penalties that if you don’t get three, you’ll get two. If you don’t get two, you’ll get it. If you don’t get it of three, it’s all weird.

“But it is also a strange way we knocked out the Champions League with Var penalty in a minute of 120.”

Mourinho continued to send a previous controversy, as he brought the final defeat of his Roma Side 2023 Europa League Sevilla, after which he received a ban on four matches for criticizing English judge Anthony Taylor.

Mourinho said, “The only thing that is still in my head is if everything that happened to my team this season in Europe, if it has something to do with the Budapest final.

“I want to think that it has nothing to do with it, it’s just bad luck, and nothing has to do with it. I want to think that way.”

Temporary manager of Rangers Barry Ferguson praised the flank for holding his head despite the loss on the night.

“It’s easy to be sorry for yourself, but they continued on. And obviously you get into the criminal situation and I thought it was very well processed.
