‘We could finish the loss’

Arsenal chief Mikel Arteta says his side played well in drawing 1-1 with Manchester United, but she could easily lose.

Speaking after the game, Arthte said, “When we had the first half we had where we were exceptional, we didn’t test the guard.

“We had some incredible situations, but we didn’t get the last goal or the last pass. We didn’t use, we hurried in the game, we started to lose duels and we could lose it in the end.

“The execution must be in the right player and the right player to shoot. As we admitted at certain moments (chances), it was not acceptable. They have so much quality and choosing the right player and would usually end up in order.

“We opened the door to lose the game. There was no chance of losing the game and we opened it ourselves. I will constantly defend my players, but in those moments we have to do better.”

Rice echoed his manager’s thoughts, admitting that they played well in the spells, but in the end the draw was an honest result.

The English midfielder continued to add that although Arsenal now sits 15 points behind Liverpool in the title race, he will continue to push by the end of the season.

He said: “In the first half we had some wonderful pieces of game, but we didn’t have that peak. In the second half we were very naive and almost gave the game Man United. To get back into the game and score and continue to push. This is in the end probably an honest point.

“We scored seven middle weeks and that’s not luck. The PSV has not lost at home for two years. Man United succeeded well and sat well in the low block. It can take 90 minutes to break it. There was not much in the game.

“I didn’t see the goal. It felt like the ball was flying over us at a low height. That (a free kick wall) felt far away. Anthony (Taylor) is ref, he makes that decision.

“I was happy. I think it’s a slightly football blow between me and a fan. It is an area I want to continue to enter and I made more chances. I have to continue to add goals. The manager wants to play me at number eight to add goals and assists.

“The chance at the end with Bruno and David, making two big savings, so I say that naivety. It was all the way to us and we could throw the game.

“As the manager said, we will continue by the end of the season. Liverpool was amazing throughout the year. We are arsenal. The injury hit us hard. We will continue and we will be fine.”
