Mohammed Shami triumphantly returns to the Indian T20I team for the English series

After a long absence due to injury, the fast bowlers Mohammed Shami should join the Indian team for the T20I series with five games against England, starting on January 22 in Kalcuta. Shami, who last played for India in the ODO World Cup final in November 2023, was undergoing ankle surgery and struggled with the problems associated with the knees during his recovery period.

Shami is the way to recovery

Ever since he returned to competitive crickets in November 2024, Shami has shown his resistance and form. He performed in all nine matches in Bengal at Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming that he was 11 Wickskete with an economic rate of 7.85. While playing smaller games in Vijay Hazare’s trophy, his performances were commendable, with five hicket on average 25.80. Despite the speculation about his return to the Indian test team during Australia, repeating the swelling of the knees delayed the return. Now fully in accordance, Shami’s involvement adds the depth and experience of the tempo attack.


Prominent teams

Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I team, with Axar Patel appointed as a Vice-Captain– a mark that is not present in previous announcements. Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill rested after participating in a recent test series in Australia. Sanja Samson and Dhruv Jurel will be performed by Wickekeeping’s duties, and Jurel will enter a significant entry into the team.

The selectors also brought fresh faces, replacing several players from the team who triumphantly in South Africa. New inclusions such as Norih Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar return after their obligations to the test series in Australia.

Key omissions

Significant ab Riyan Parag is not available due to the shoulder injury, while Ramandeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal and Vijaykumar Vyshak are omitted after the previous T20I appearances in South Africa.

Schedule and challenges ahead


India will face England over five t20iS in Calcutta, Chennai, Rajkot, full and Mumbai between January 22 and February 2. The series serves as a key preparation for the champion trophy, starting on February 19.

After the T20I, India will host three ODO in Nagpur (February 6), Cuttack (February 9) and Ahmedabad (February 12). These matches will be the only Indian to go before Marquee ICC.
