Oscar Duarte received some bad news today, and Regis Programis suffered a shoulder injury and pulled out of his main fight on February 15th at the Honda Center in Anheima, California.
He will be off the map, unless Golden Boy can find a quick replacement to face the lightweight Welterweight Duarte in the main event. What a shame because it was that great conflict at this Dazn event.
Program injury
The teammate on the card is a super medium weight Darius Fulghum Vs. Winfred Harris. If the Golden Boy promoters want to save the event, they can push that match into the main event and may not mind.
Ring Reports that the former double champion of £ 140 (29-3, 24 ko) suffered injury. The program is 36, so it’s not surprising that he was injured in training.
Regis lost his last two struggles and was without a victory from his questionable decision in 12 rounds two years ago against Danielite Zorrilla 17 June 2023. Many fans believe that the program lost that fight.
Golden Boy hoped Duarte (28-2-1, 22 ko) would use this fight against the program to show his skills to pick up his third straight victory to position him for the title.
Promoters should always have a suitable copy when using older fighters in Headlininer or a place of compassion. The chances of not going through a training camp without pulling out are too high so that someone wouldn’t wait to enter.
Considering how the poor regis looked in the last three struggles, it should not be difficult for a golden boy to find someone to replace him with equal talent. The only problem with this Duarte would not have much time to prepare for that fighter. The last thing Oscar de la Hoya would like to be beaten again and that all so hard work invested in renovation as he goes down the drain.
Ever since he lost to Ryan Garcia in December 2023 in the eighth round, Duarte, 29, he has won in the last two fights, beating Joseph Diaz and Botirzhon Akhmed.
