Trayon White, DC’s counselor, faces a possible expulsion vote on the federal post of bribe

Washington, DC, city councilor, Trayon White, faces a possible expulsion of city leadership in the midst of a corruption trial by alleged bribery positions.

The FBI arrested White in August 2024, claiming that he took over $ 150,000 in bribes to influence the hiring of the city. Although the trial has not yet begun, the FBI revealed evidence showing the envelopes that accept white -filled whites from an office reporter. The City Council will vote on White’s expulsion later on Tuesday.

“This is corruption par excellence,” said Council President Phil Mendelson in a December statement. “There is only one remedy: to eliminate corruption from our body. This incident has damaged the public trust needed for the government to work well.”

Despite the charges and tests against him, White was re -elected to the City Council in November, only three months after his arrest. His federal trial will begin in January 2026. He has stated that he is not guilty.

“I am confident that the people of Ward 8 have talked. I feel that I will win by a landslide, but I continue to humiliate and pray. I hope (send) a strong message to the DC advice on keeping the decisions in the hands of the people.” White told Wjla on the day of the election after the results made it clear that he would win.

“Minister White betrayed the confidence of his staff, council, agencies and, above all, residents of Room 8,” said Counselor Kenya McDuffie, Democrat, at a preliminary audience last week.

Mendelson, also a Democrat, echoed McDuffie’s skepticism in a statement.

“The public (must) have confidence in the government, must have confidence in the legislature, must have confidence in those who are elected,” he said.

“I would like to resign,” said counselor Robert C. White Jr., also a Democrat, according to the Washington Post. “If you violated the rules of the Council and you know that you have broken the rules of the Board, to propose the Council is something to think.”
