Barcelona ‘thinking about taking Clasico with Real Madrid to a venue outside Spain’

Barcelona are reportedly considering moving May’s Clasico with Real Madrid to a foreign venue if the renovated Camp Nou is not ready in time.

Barca’s renovated stadium is already behind schedule and there are fears it may not be completed for the match scheduled for the weekend of May 10-11.

The Catalan club have already extended their temporary stay at Barcelona’s Estada Olimpic Lluis Companys until the end of April, but that deal cannot go beyond that date with the venue due to hold a series of high-profile concerts in May.

For the Clasico weekend, The Rolling Stones are scheduled to perform at the Estada Olimpic, leaving Barca in a race against time.

A report on local radio station SER Catalunya said the club would consider moving the game to a ‘big stadium in Europe’, although no details were given.

If their hand is forced, Barca would have to seek permission from La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation, as well as Real Madrid.

After 20 rounds in the first division, Madrid is the leader in the standings, two points more than city rivals Atletico. Barcelona is third, five points behind.
