We test tons of Android phones. We like the one below, but you’ll be fine with one of the above. If you haven’t, check out ours Best Cheap Phones and Best Tips for Folding Phones about more.
Google Pixel 9 for $799: The Pixel 9 is a great smartphone (9/10, WIRED Recommends), but between the Pixel 8A and the Pixel 9 Pro series, it struggles to stand out. It shares many features with its more expensive siblings, but you can get a very much a similar experience to the Pixel 8A, all while saving hundreds of dollars. If you love the design and want new software tools, don’t let me stop you! But it might be wiser to wait for the Pixel 9A in the spring.
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE for $650: Samsung Galaxy S24 FE by Samsung is in the same boat as the Pixel 9. It is very close to the price of the Galaxy S24 series, which you can find on sale not much, and there are cheap phones that are very expensive. It’s a very capable smartphone with three cameras (including a 3X telephoto camera), and offers great performance. It has wireless charging, is IP68 waterproof, and has a battery that lasts all day. It’s a shame that the design is so complicated.
Google Pixel 8 for $499 and The Pixel 8 Pro is $599: Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro (7/10, WIRED Recommends) as of 2023 are still available for purchase and are great devices with plenty of life left. Just make sure you don’t spend more than $600. Anything else and you should just buy from the new Pixel 9 lineup.
Honor Magic V3 for £1,799: If you’re outside the US, the Magic V3 might be the best folding phone right now; is the world’s most foldable phone (8/10, WIRED Recommends). It has good battery life, a wide outer screen that feels like a normal phone, and a wide inner screen when unfolded. Although the cameras are flexible, even ultrawide is not the best, and all phone apps can cause frustration.
OnePlus 12 for $800 and OnePlus 12R for $600: OnePlus reconnected with its roots in 2024, offering killer products at incredibly low prices. OnePlus 12R is better than OnePlus 12 (8/10, WIRED Recommends), but you should buy these phones if you can find them on sale. Otherwise, just buy the latest OnePlus 13 and 13R as they don’t cost much.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 for $1,900: Group 6 (7/10, WIRED Recommends) is a very flexible smartphone with a large screen. If you are worried about durability and maintenance when buying a cage, Samsung is your best bet because it has been making these devices for a very long time. The cameras take great pictures, the display is amazingly bright, and Samsung promises long-lasting software support. The external screen of the Fold6 is slightly larger and better to use than in the past, but otherwise, there are no new changes outside of the AI advancement. You can still last year Galaxy Z Fold5 keeping the cross.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 for $1,100: The Flip6 (7/10, WIRED Recommends) has some great features on Motorola’s new Razr+, like a better hinge system, better specs, stronger cameras, and long-term app support. But I still like what happened to the Motorola update, especially because of the external screen. However, the Flip6’s 3.4-inch screen is useful for looking at widgets, and you can open it up to have a larger Android phone. The Galaxy Z Flip5 It’s the right choice if you don’t mind buying last year’s technology at a low price.
We have legal opinions on a few popular devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, and The price of S22 or Google’s Pixel 9 lineup. It’s smart to slap on these glass sandwiches and a screen protector to keep the display free from scuffs and scratches. Here are some popular accessories, including adapters, that most phones use no more. Read our The best guide to USB-C cables for other purposes.
Anker 45-Watt Charger for $20: This small charger will be what most people need to charge most phones. It’s compact, reliable, and affordable, plus folding. More cell phones than ever can go up to 45-watt speeds, so use a 45-watt charger.
Counterpart The Charger for $44: It’s not the best price, but this portable charger has a 4-foot cable that makes it a great two-in-one—no need to carry a charger with a separate cable! It puts out 35 watts, which is more than enough to charge most phones and tablets, and the prongs bend when you travel.
Peak Design Samsung and Pixel Daily Case for $50: If you have a Samsung or Pixel phone and you often mount your phone on a bike or scooter, you owe it to yourself Riding a Peak Design bike. The case fits well into the mount, is easy to release, and has not fallen off after many years. Peak Design also sells a few more additions you can connect to the back of this case, and bring Android Apple’s MagSafe ecosystem.
Nimble Champ Portable Charger 10,000 mAh for $60: This portable battery is small enough to leave in a bag but has enough power to charge your phone once or twice. There’s a USB-C and USB-A port, it offers up to 18W of power, so it can also charge your tablet or phone, and it’s housed in 73 percent of consumer plastic that has plastic-free packaging.
